Originally from South Sudan, Africa, Saul Ebema came to the United States in 2005 and is one of our Chaplains at Angels Grace Hospice & Palliative Care in Illinois.
He has experienced loss, losing both parents when he was very young and most of his family when he was 12 years old, and believes that that prepares him now so can walk alongside those who are going through their own losses.
You wonder what your life is, what is your purpose, but it is in that place of pain and grief that he has found his true calling. His work has a sense of holistic healing as he connects firstly with the patient and then their family. They “minister” to each other.
But the most important thing is those points of connection and healing in the triangle of Saul, patient and family, creates a powerful moment. As a “wounded healer”, his work as Chaplain allows the patient to touch his “wounds” and vice versa, allowing them to connect, being there for one another.
