Michele Sotelo considers herself a paramedic of hospice, supporting families in their time of need in a crisis; they are having difficulty with symptom management; at time of death; or the patient has had a fall and is injured.
A nurse for 20 years, she likes being a paramedic so she can use her “critical thinking” and other skills she has learned in that time in acute care nursing to problem solve.
Angels Grace Hospice Case Managers will update her before she arrives so she has a clear understanding of what is going on with the patient. Patients can also change condition rapidly so she has to be ready for that too so she can figure out the next step in their care!
She treats patients like they are her mother, father or a grandparent, so they are taken care of at all hours. She’d rather people call Angels Grace than 9-1-1.
